How to Have the Best Time at the Marriott in Georgetown, Guyana
Marriott Gym MemberI had the opportunity to join the gym at the Marriott in Georgetown today. What a paradise. There is a view of the muddy ocean. There are a line of elliptical machines, high-tech treadmills, and a variety of good quality weight machines as well as free weights. And as I said, the view is fantastic. There are also TVs on most of the machines! Maybe that is normal for a gym, but for me, it is amazing.
PoolThere is also a large, wide pool for swimming from laps, with cabanas and lounge chairs for relaxing. There is are changing rooms with lockers that lock, in the gym, and a second one out by the pool. There are also large white fluffy towels for use.
Marriott Lunch BuffetWe had lunch at their extensive buffet, stuffing ourselves with as many desserts as we could after eating several plates of main dishes. I had a large salad with walnuts, olives, raisings, tomatoes, several types of lettuce, and balsamic vinegar/olive oil dressing. Then I had a big stir-fly with pigeon peas (?), mushrooms, broccoli, peppers, topped with parmesan cheese. And then I dove into the incredible desserts. They also made me a custom feta-cucumber-tomato-olive salad that I was too full to eat by the time it arrived – so they happily packed it up for me. Afterwards, we sat and worked in the upstairs lounge overlooking the ocean, printed some documents at the business center, and headed to the gym. It was a wonderful afternoon to be surrounded by the comfort.
SafetySo far, my experience of Georgetown has been that it is as safe as any city. But still, nearly every day someone warns me not to be out after dark or not to walk near Water Street, or Main Street, or the Sea Wall, or somewhere else. And so it was nice to feel I was in an area I was totally free and safe. I could swim, relax, work, and drink the beauty in with my eyes. I feel revitalized. Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Cheers!
